Here's another view of the Stranahan house on the Heights. We're looking down 12th Street at Taylor. Other than the slope of the terrain there is nothing here to clue the modern viewer to the location.
I'm not sure if the windmill was to pump water from a well, or if it was just to pump it up into the tower for pressure. I know the old High School a block over had a water tank in the attic, so I suspect that whatever public water supply the city had in this era it didn't generate much pressure at the Heights.

Sorry to today's businesses, but I sure like this view better.
Was it good growing soil in this area or was it kind of rocky?
Arthur.....the donate button says to mail a check to the Museum. If we put a note on there that it is for Historic HR , will the money go to this project?

I think this modern building was remodeled last year into 6 apartments.

Great soil in the area. When first moving here I asked the gentleman who plowed everybody's garden, 'is this good soil?' And his reply was, "'Lady if you can't grow anything here you can't grow nothin'. Anybody remember his name? Was in Mauer or Meyer?

Ditto Nels, great soil! Too bad this structure did not make it to today! Did it burn, a likely culprit to wooden building destruction? Kind of reminds me of the one down the street, where the Thai place was, and how many other different restaurants? Is there a historian that keeps track of all the businesses that occupy a building over the years? I hope so, remember Jose's Taco house, and Terrible Tommy's at the Y? Grace Su's China Gorge now.

Wasn't it Andy's Y Inn when we were in high school?
Norma on 19th March 2015 @ 6:20pm
Definitley Andy's Y-Inn when we were in school. Hey Buzz, did you ever get kicked out of there? Andy loved the teen age money, but not the teen agers.....
Charlott on 20th March 2015 @ 7:10am
What was Andy's wife's name?
Bill Pattison on 21st March 2015 @ 1:09pm
I used to know, but can't think of it right now. All I remember is Andy sitting up there on his "favorite" bar stool glaring at teen agers, unless they were with their parents.
