[Ed. note: The History Museum has a great group of volunteers, and some of them have offered to try their hand at HHR posts. Hope you enjoy hearing a different voice.]
Basketball had only been invented by about 1890, just eight years before Edna Plog was born. Her family arrived in the Hood River area in 1902 and she is seen here in 1926 with the Columbia High School Lady Bruins of White Salmon, Washington. (Check out the footwear!) By 1926, she would already be too old to play for the Lady Bruins, but perhaps she coached them instead.
We do know that Edna went on to become a home economics teacher and that the Plogs still live in the area today. Perhaps you know something of Edna Plog’s basketball affiliation and can help solve the mystery?

My mom would have been 2 years old when this photo was taken and she is now 87 years old.
These ladies are really old!
After viewing so many photos with long hair done up on top of the ladies' heads, these short, modern looking hair cuts are quite a change.

Wasn't that the era of "flappers" who had short hair? Great picture!

Women in sports certainly has had an interesting history. My mother, Lois, played team basketball for Odell High School but during my generation (HRHS class of 1959) there was no girls basketball....now it is back.
