Though Alva Day worked for Pacific Power and helped convince people to buy modern electric appliances, it wasn't until 1937 that he and Io were ready to give up the wood-fired Belnoy. He took this final image just before it was carted away. We'll see its replacement Monday.
I really wish we could see the colors of that kitchen flooring.

Reminds me of my Mom's, though I don't remember what the name of it was. That seems like a VERY tall hot water tank. Bet the floor was probably maroons, browns and maybe some beige colors.
When my Mom got her electric stove the wood one was hooked into the chimney in the basement. Great idea as I recall one Thanksging there was a storm and the power went out and my aunts were all freaking out about cooking dinner. Mom to the rescue........... Our tukey and all the trimmins' were cooked on that little wood stove in the basement. Probably tasted better anyway.

The water heater looks new which probably replaced the old one heated by the wood stove.

This looks very much like the wood cook stove of my Mom's, though I don't know the brand of hers. That looks like a very tall hot water heater there. Bet the floors were maroon, browns and some tans.
After my Mom got her electric stove she had the wood stove hooked up in the basement. Did it come in handy. One Thanksgiving there was a storm, power was out and remained out. My aunts were freaking out about cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Mom to the rescue. The entire Thanksgiving meal was cooked in our basement.

I think we had one like that, but it had been converted to oil.

We had a lovely one when I was a kid, it had warming ovens on the top, and was somewhat larger. It was my job to start it in the mornings, and the regular wood stove in the living room , as they were the only source of heat in the house. Every Wednesday was bread baking day at our house. My mom would start early in the morning, because she and my twin sister, usually made 10 to 12 loaves of bread. She even did loaves in large yeast cans, so when they came out they were round. These were used for hamburgers. Boy does that bring back memories, of the best bread I ever ate. We were still using those stoves when we moved to another house in 1975. I sure hated it when we left the cook stove behind.
I didn't make bread, I was too busy milking an average of 6 cows a morning, and setting irrigation, with my Dad, who just didn't have, old enough, sons. lol

Is it just me or does it look like linoleum on the wall too?! The old house I was just mentioning, had linoleum on the kitchen walls, as well as the counters. It had the same kind of wrinkles with the black showing through. My Mom hated it, so she got the bright idea, to cover it up with sticky plastic shelf liner, which came in rolls like wallpaper She put it up, it went on slick. In the night the house cooled down, and when we came down to the kitchen in the morning, the stuff had fallen off the walls, and was laying all over everything. It was a fiasco. lol

Huge electric water heater. Must have really eaten up watts, and probably not insulated as well as present day. But it was a love affair with electricity. And linoleum is back as the newest floor covering.

My dad worked for an old farmer for a while, that never threw anything away. You could find halves of these old water heater tanks, all over his farm, being used for animal feed troughs.

I have a beautiful green and cream colored wood stove that I bought at a yard sale for $300. Don't use it but have it for storage and looks. It doesn't have a brand name on it.

I have a wood cook stove/electric stove combo in my kitchen. One half is a wood cook top and the other half is electric burners. The oven works both as an electric oven or wood stove oven.
It has cooked a lot of meals and baked a lot of bread when the power has been out.
