This is a classic postcard view. Based on the cars I'm dating it to the 1960s. You can see the Hackett Furniture store, Rexall Drugs, and J. C. Penney Co.

I think I can just make out "Hal's Men's Wear", which later became "Marv's For Men."

I wonder what's playing at the Rialto?

Definitely the '60s. Hood River Stationers at Second and Oak, and Columbia Photo at Third and Oak--note the Kodak sign. Tausend's Jewelry across Oak Street from Columbia Photo. The other businesses on this block included The H&V cafe, Keir's Pharmacy and the Leonora Shop on the south side, and Young's Bakery and Mode O Day on the north side.

H&V started out on the north side and then moved to the Apple Blossom on the south side. Loved the Boston Cream pie at the H&V. Looks like the doctors like their A/C units.

Is that a water fountain on the SW corner?

I lived in this downtown section on Oak Street from 1946 to 1955. By this time in the 1960's, it hadn't changed much. As a kid, I enjoyed living there--lots of nice merchants!

It was nice when you could do all of your shopping locally. I really miss all those stores.

That looks like a red 1965 Pontiac Catalina on the left side, so at least '65 for a date.

We had a 65 Pontiac Lemans which looked just like that.

I remember looking up this street so many times. When did the Bowling Alley, on the right hand corner, diagonally across from the large grassy area which runs up the the back of the library close?
