This view from the Alta Walter album shows a truck exiting the Mitchell Point Tunnel as a car is waiting on the viaduct to enter. This is from the early 1920's, just a few years after the tunnel opened.

Boy, that took me a while to adjust my eyes to find a truck and car.

Should have probably given a little more detail about what you're seeing here. Coming from the west, the road left the cluster of buildings known as "Sonny", hugging the cliff face as it rounded a bend. You then drove onto a viaduct spanning a chasm. At the other end of the viaduct you entered the tunnel. What we see here is a truck leaving the tunnel, while a car is sitting on the viaduct waiting for its turn to go through the tunnel.

I have no memory of these tunnels....memory only of the Mosier tunnels and their one-way signalling.....did the Mitchell Point tunnels have signals?
I am also looking forward to a walk through the "new" tunnels. lets have a Museum party.
