Here's the First National Bank Building shortly after its construction in 1910. The Heilbronner Building behind it isn't quite finished.
Notice the streets haven't yet been paved, the clock hasn't been installed, and the entrance doorway is not in the same location it is in today.
You can read here about the opening celebrations held in September, 1910 at the Hood River Commercial Club's offices on the second floor.

In the 60's and 70's my father's office was in the basement of the bank, at the end of that sunken alley. It was the Inspection Office for the Dept of Agriculture. Dad had a big plywood ping pong table set up where my brothers and I played some pretty lively games. Dad made us halt the ruckus any time the phone rang, to preserve the illusion of a serious workplace.

In 1947, when I was 6 years old, I lived in the same apartment building as Irene McConn, who was a teller at this bank. She invited me to come in one day, and she helped me set up my first savings account.

The museum archives/research team was in Monday and I've left a post on the Nov. 17 entry about the Chinese restaurant.
In the late 1940's & early 50's my father's office was on the 5th ? floor or the Heibronner building that was called the Pythian bldg in those days. Part of my allowance required vacuuming that office each weekend. If there was an elevator then I was never told about it.
It's a good match job of replacing the front door with windows. The tall straight telephone poles in 1910 are impressive!

I have always been fascinated with this building after I found out my great-great grandfather was Vice President at First National back those days.
