My grandfather and uncles worked here in the '20s. They lived on Leasure Dr in Mt. Hood, so walked over Gilhouley to and from work each day. This was a good ole "company" mill that extended credit to workers during the hard times; they owned the company store so people could get food and supplies. Course that left very little in the paycheck when it came, but they were glad to have the job. They had to carry the big flour sacks, etc. back over the hill too. With the railroad depot and hotel, Dee was a busy place then!

No, this is not Alva Day. Not sure who the photographer is, but the look of the image makes me think it was shot with a box camera with a pinhole lens.
