This is an Ella May Davidson portrait of her father, Charles Davidson, who was also known as "the Deacon." I don't know if that was because of a religious affiliation or just a term of endearment. We have an approximate date for this one because he is reading a copy of "The Twentieth Century Magazine" which says April 1912 on it spine.
We know in his younger years Charles Davidson customized and painted buggies and wagons in Ohio. I believe he moved to Hood River to help his son Horatio operate his businesses.

Charles Davidson was born in 1840 and died at Hood River in 1925. He was Secretary of the Davidson Fruit Company.

I agree with Dale. The detail is amazing.

Would love a closer look at some of the photos behind him. One looks quite modern; wonder if some of the others might be in museum collection.

Cecilia, the details on the bookshelf are a bit blurry. The only book title I can make out is "The Great Debate". There is a Davidson family photo we definitely have in the collection. And then there are the odd cards he had jammed between books. A fun detail is the old telephone on the wall behind his head.

I wonder what he did to his finger?

A reminder that before radios and all the other electronics we have for news,
books, letters, and occasional newspapers were the source of most all
information. Even magazines were a rarity. And this one has similarities to
National Geographic.
