It took me a couple of views to come up with a theory for this one. It is from the M.F. Shaw album (circa 1900) and is labeled contemporaneously "Hood River". I believe we are right at the mouth of the Hood River, north of the train tracks, looking SE. I believe the railroad tracks and bridge are just out of view to the right. The camera was probably positioned where I-84 crosses the Hood River. The hill in the background looks completely different now with the loops of the Columbia River Highway. Does that feel right to you?

I would have never guessed that was the location of the photo.
So, what and where are the buildings on the left?

Much of that ground was Indian village as well as garden land.

If I'm correct about the location, this would have been nearby: http://historichoodriver.com/index.php?showimage=854
