Here's another great construction photo of the Mosier Twin Tunnels on the Columbia River Highway. This view is prior to the tunnel being lined and portals constructed. You can really appreciate the structure of the basalt columns forming the tunnel, which is mostly impossible to see today.

Arlen, I just added a source: the photo is from our friends at ODOT. They searched their archives to prepare for the centennial celebration, and this was one of the treasures they sent my way.

thanks Arthur.....brother John W, RIP, during his career with ODOT was a strong supporter of the ODOT archives and museum concept.....he would have been proud to see this and other postings from ODOT.. GREAT that you have a good relationship with them. And yes, Kenn Lantz, RIP, would also love this picture. What a project!!!!
