The caption on this image has plenty of detail: PARKDALE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM 1917: Blanch Huff (or Hough), Mildred Van Nyse, Edith Meiers, Clarice Middleswart, Zella Kelly. Not pictured, Hallie Puddy. The girls practiced in an applehouse after the fruit had been shipped. They played two games against other schools. Their only score in the two games was one foul shot.

GREAT photo & history. Our Mother played BB for Odell HS......I have always wondered what happened to women's high school athletics between her era and mine when during my 1950s high school years the only female game other than bothering us boys was tennis.

Seeing the name Hallie Puddy reminded me of Hal Puddy, friend of my father's, and when I googled him this good HHR picture came up: http://historichoodriver.com/index.php?showimage=592. Enjoyed seeing many familiar names, including Tony Krivak whom I remember suddenly skiing out of the woods above Cooper Spur with others, probably Crag Rats returning from Cloud Cap. It impressed those of us learning to ski!
Anyone know if Hallie and Hal could have been related?

Do you think they played in those shoes?

The first Pastor for the brown church(established 1911) on Baseline Rd was a Van Nuys-
His picture is in the basement kitchen/dining area of the church- and spelled “Van Nuys”.
I’m wondering if Mildred is his daughter- and last name was misspelled on this.
The street in front of the Parkdale Elementary School is Van Nuys.

Gosh, I wonder if there's a photo of the Hood River HS basketball team for 1916--my grandmother Vera Lafferty was captain.

Nancy T, the museum has many yearbooks from that era. I'll bet if thy have the 1916 HRHS yearbook it would include a picture of the basketball team.
