A family member asked me about this image of the primary school children at Oak Grove (Crapper) School from 1911. The reverse of the image has my second favorite form of documentation: non-contemporaneous notes by a subject. In this case, we have a note from Martha Struck Brumquist which says, "Oak Grove School, then called Crapper School. I taught there Sept 1909 until spring of 1911, then started to college." The message is written in red ink, which proves she was a teacher!
Of course even better would be if she had written the message in 1911, listing all the children present. We're told there are several Annalas and Hukaris in the image, so I am hoping by posting it here we'll get some IDs from descendants of some of these kids.

Thanks so much Arthur for helping me with the family picture. I have only a picture of my father in ringlets when the Annala families were leaving the North Dakota homestead in 1908. Here my Dad, Sulo Annala is the third young man in the front row on the left side. He was born in 1904 so he would have been about 7. His older sister Evi Annala is in the second row of girls in the center, with the dark colored dress. Above Evi, a little to the left is Alvah Annala . He looks like he is standing a little out of line. I am pretty sure directly to my father's right is Eino Annala of the Zachary Annala family.

Really like the class pictures. Their expressions and their clothing tells such
stories.

love the red pen comment Arthur.....worked some great years for a superintendent at Multnomah ESD, Al Thede, who would "correct" my drafts with his red pencil...finally told him, read for content ONLY. guess once a teacher...always a _______. and yes, class pictures do tell a lot. grandmother Della Sheirbon was a teacher for a few years with an 8th grade education....
