On the surface things haven't changed since this July 1929 Alva Day view of Cloud Cap Inn. The mountain is still there, as is the road and the inn. Of course the glaciers have shrunk and the Dollar Lake fire came awfully close to this spot, but I think Alva Day would still recognize the view.
Is he going on a hike with those other guys? He is dressed pretty fancy for that.
Maybe he is the chauffeur.

Nice pic .. !! Any guess as to what the sign may read ? Is that a structure deep in the trees ?

I should have explained Cloud Cap Inn is in that cluster of trees to the left. That's where the group of people is headed, following a sign with an arrow which says, "This way to viewpoint".

I was going to ask..."so where is Cloud Cap Inn in this picture?" With my poor eyesight, I was thinking maybe everyone could see it but me. Or maybe Arthur was trying to gaslight us?

His car is sitting right in what is now the parking lot at Cloud Cap/Snowshoe. The road they are walking on goes up and around to the back of Cloud Cap Inn.
You really don't see Cloud Cap Inn other than I can see the front steps up there, off to the left of that group of people and above at the end of that so called path. That would be the steps up to the front door.
There is a possibility that this could have been about the time of Legion Climb in 1929, but think there is just a little too much snow on the Spur for that.

This prior posting shows less snow - likely later in the climbing season. The size or bulk of the glaciers appears less. http://historichoodriver.com/index.php?showimage=2547
