She was born in Klondike, Oregon on 10 April 1899. Klondike was just outside Wasco, Sherman County. Her parents were John Andrew Walter and Fanny M. Hildebrand. The Hildebrand family were a large farming family in that area. In fact there are still family members living right there between Wasco and Klondike.
Her parents farmed here in Hood River out in the Barrett area. She married Wallace Leon May not early in life, but sometime after she was 30 years old. and they had two sons, William M. and John Andrew.

At some point in time, but at the same time, the Hood River area had a Wallace C May and a Wallace L May.
A good example of how easily research can go the wrong direction.
Thanks Charlott for your info.

Thanks for your reference, Jeffrey. The entry you mention is written by the brother of Alta Walter, J.A. (Andy) Walter, Jr. He and Alta and another brother grew up on Orchard Road attending East Barrett School until it closed in 1918 and then went to West Barrett School. He states that Alta married W. L. May of The Dalles He also mentions that the first airplane he ever saw landed on Belmont, "west of 13th or 14th Street and Bolinger's." Probably several people reading this remember Bolinger's.
