What a great class picture. This is from the third grade at the Pleasant View School, winter of 1914-15. It's a bit hard to read the handwriting, but I think the teacher's name is listed as "Allie Forry".

Interesting photo that shows the boys outnumber the girls by more than 2:1!

Yes Allie Forry was a school teacher in Hood River. She lived in the Barrett area with her parents Walter and Elizabeth Forry. She was born in 1888 in Cresco, Iowa. She taught in a number of areas. She eventually married a man by the name of Powell.
Her relatives still live in the area. Her sister Louisa married Eric Gordon and they had Helen and Marion Gordon, who both married Hukari's of the upper valley.

Both schools were more beautiful than the present day doctor office and they definitely had a pleasant view.
In these old school photos, I always think the kids look like their feet are killing them inside of ill fitting shoes.

Yes- Allie Forry was my great aunt. She had a Millenry shop ( probably spelled that wrong) - a hat shop in Pomeroy, Wa. She passed away there in an assisted living place - about 1980. I helped my Mom clean out the old shop- it was very interesting- we have quite a collection of letters the sisters ( my grandma Louise being one of them) wrote to each other. I believe there was 4 girls and a boy of the siblings.
