That is Cloud Cap Inn in the back ground.

That cabin has me baffled, as it appears to be near the location of the Snowshoe Club. It strikes me as being just about where the present parking lot is between Cloud Cap and Snowshoe. However, this is not the Snowshoe Club as it appears today. They may have had this cabin there prior, but I have never heard of one.

From what I understand the Snowshoe was founded by a number of prominent men in Portland, that enjoyed the mountain experience, both in the summer and winter.

I agree with Charlott that is Cloud Cap behind this cabin. The rope or wire coming off the roof, does it connect to the rectangle block on the ridgeline and did they use that for snow removal?

The Snow Shoe Club is located to the west of where this was taken. At one point there was a stable near the Snow Shoe Club that was built in the style of a log cabin. Given that there are two horses in the shot, can we reasonably assume this is what we're looking at? Yep- that's cloud cap inn and cooper spur, and the hut and folks are standing in what is now the field below the road, to the east of the parking lot and snow shoe club. We often hiked up this field when we came up the old coach road 9 what the old rats called the short cuts) especially when their were still snow banks blocking the main road in early summer. I remember coming across old foundations further down the trail, but this hut maust have been long gone, or maybe I just never stumbled across it.

I am not a local, but when I saw this photo, my first thought was I wonder if that is Cloud Cap Inn in the background. I was up at Cloud Cap one year ago, almost to the day, and I have a picture I took, looking towards the mountain, that is just a few steps to the west of where this picture was taken.

Their were cables like that over Cloud Cap Inn, and the cabins that used to sit out in front of it on the Mt side. They were anchors- to hold them there in the big winds.

If this was a stable, it probably was where horses were stabled after their long hard climb up with guests to
Cooper Spur. There was also what was referred to as I believe "horse camp." Which was down over the hill a ways. It was used during the time that Cloud Cap was being constructed, or so I have been told.

The dress of these people really indicates they are probably guests of Cloud Cap. I think these horses would be riding, as they do not have the build of the team horses that would have been used to pull the wagons to Cloud Cap.

Could not have been a Forest Ranger hat, as there was no parks in those days.

That is MOST definitely Cloud Cap Inn in the back ground. On the back side it does have a high foundation.
