More proof that people could be silly long ago. According to Pansy DeWitt, this was an "over-nite party near Stevenson at Hadley's cabin." She wrote they went down on the steamer "Dalles City". The men goofing around are Bill, Harry DeWitt, Hi Gill, Art Clark, Ed Vannet, and Culver Osgood.
Could "Ed Vannet" be long time Hood River teacher and athletic director Ed Vannet? He was born in 1926. I suppose it could also be his father, who was born in 1890. Unfortunately we don't know the year of the photograph. [Ed. note: A family member has verified this is Edward Vannet, father of teacher Ed Vannet]

My guess would be that this would be Ed Vannet's father in the photo.

The Hadley family I knew of, were more in the area of Skamania/Beacon Rock.
That looks porch looks more like a home than a cabin.

Does your photo have the heads of the onlookers showing?

No, unfortunately all the women's heads are out of frame.

Yes, that was my great grandfather Edward Vannet. He and his wife had two sons, Dave and Ed (This is the teacher and coach many in the valley knew). They owned an orchard in Pine Grove, which they sadly lost during war. Both boys were serving in the military and weren’t home to run harvest.
*A request from our family, please spell our last name with one “t”- Vannet. Thank you. :)

Thanks Calli, I’ll correct the spelling. Pansy DeWitt!s notes on the photo we’re misspelled. I suspected as much but couldn’t be sure as I wasn’t positive this man was from the same family. I appreciate the definitive ID and correction.

Thank you so much Arlen. I will pass it along to my grandmother.. He was a great man and even better grandfather. He is missed by many. Arthur, thank you so much for the correction. We really appreciate it. It is so fun being able to see photos of the people and places in the HR valley on this site. It sure is a special place and we are very lucky to live here.
