You don't see baggy long pants with elastic cuffs like that anymore.

While I admire old photos, the colors and details in this one are absolutely vibrant.

I thought the Gorge Games was a great idea. What happened?

Yes, I like to see some color on this site occasionally. As to what happened to the Gorge Games-- I don't have any direct knowledge, but I understand they had were unable to find a named sponsor. I recall Timberland and Subaru were sponsors, but neither wanted to do it again.

I believe this is the downhill mountain bike competition which I think was held at Ski Bowl. I do know that Subaru was the named sponsor for the 2000 and 2001 Gorge Games. Ford was the named sponsor for 2002 which was the last year of the Gorge Games. Both sponsors thought highly of the games and the Gorge.

Notice that 21 year old bike, it's got all the special gear, front and rear shocks, disc brakes, no doubt state of the art for 2000. Nowadays, a new bike like that is anywhere from 2-5k, That's right thousands. I wonder what it cost in 2000?

Decent new mountain bikes generally start around $1,500, and if you want something really top end it gets closer to $10k in a HURRY. It's crazy.
