My memory of sailboats on the Columbia River around Hood River is that before 1960, I don't recall there being much sailing. Then about 1960, Gilbert Jubitz bought a sailboat and took it out a lot. Thereafter, the sailing in the Hood River area greatly increased.

After Bill contacted me about this photo I checked some photos I had and placed the purchase of a sailboat by my parents to about 1968. In my father's youthful playboy days growing up in Portland he had a sailboat. When the family purchased Franz Hardware in 1937 my grandfather decided playboy days were over and made my dad sell his sailboat. Guess he was just reliving his youth.

Kerry Poe, a four-time US Sailing Team member in the 470 class, was the Race Director for the 2001 Subaru Gorge Games and I'm pretty sure for the 2000 Games too.
