When Nichols Boat Works opened in the 1940s they hung out this "shingle" soliciting business in the area. The line "We can convert your old truck into a serviceable tractor" refers to Mark Nichols 1935 invention of he "truck tractor." We learned about that invention here.
The "Mole" was the spit of landfill north of 1st Street. I think it was built as part of the process of clearing the delta for the coming of Lake Bonneville after construction of the Bonneville Dam. Does anyone know where the term "Mole" came from?

Seeing the telephone number here took me back to the old simpler days of the 1940's. Been a long time gone, but the one phone number I still remember was for Applegate Taxi--their number was 2244.
