Talk about a stage...............only in Hood River, on the back of a truck.
I will not say that it is, but the man in the light sports jacket looks a lot like Vic Thomsen, orchardist in Pine Grove.
Is the gentleman next to him taking a snooze?
One man, whom I know I have seen, is quite sporty with his flake suit and those socks.......Wow.....

Do you mean the guy who is the spitting image of Chuck?
JKG on 25th September 2019 @ 8:26am
I like that overhang on the corner so much more than the current ugly little bank building.

Gosh, how many can open this photo and immediately recognize the speaker?
I guess just we oldies who like old photos.

The Bartmess-Kneeland Hardware store and Garrabrant Chevolet businesses are evident. Fixtures for many years.
If this is 1960, Mark Hatfield would have been Gov. Mark Hatfield and heavily involved in national politics being touted, by some, as a vice presidential candidate. But it was not to be.
Gov. Hatfield must have campaigned well for Richard Nixon as Vice President Nixon won 23/36 counties in Oregon. Nixon won Hood River county by eleven points and Oregon by five points.
I wonder who supplied the truck?

Orient me - what building/business is currently on that corner (hardware store in photo)? From the road signs I'm guessing the SE corner...?
Harold on 25th September 2019 @ 11:09am
Yes, this is the SE corner. I've added a modern reference photo.
ArthurB on 25th September 2019 @ 11:31am
Thanks, Arthur. That's what I figured, but it's changed so much.
And on the subject of change, it bears noting that if that pic were taken today, the men in the background might be in shorts and Gore-Tex (and they wouldn't all be men).

That was my family's hardware store and later I worked and retired from Washington Federal. Small world.
Mary Bartmess Kramer on 25th September 2019 @ 8:11pm
and I have fond memories of your store Mary....bought my first model train there.....is that Ken Jernstad )sp) to Mark's immediate left in the background?
Arlen L Sheldrake on 25th September 2019 @ 9:04pm
Yes, Chuck looks much like his grandfather, Vic Thomsen.....
