Here's a nice Joe Kollas image of Hood River Harbor (now known as Nichols Basin) circa 1970. That's the USS Banning serving up tourist information to anyone brave enough to walk the gang plank and knock on the door.

I like the little tug in the foreground. Looks pretty new. No name on it? Whats its story?

That's a confusing photo. On one hand the tracks leading down to the water suggests Nichols Basin but that view of the bridge makes it look like the marina.

Dan; they had a work area to the west when they got busy, don't believe it was ever covered like to the south.

I spent a summer as a tour guide on the Banning, i think '67. Didn't make squat but had a great time exploring all the nooks and crannies and playing with the big guns. Dan it is Nichols Basin, the marina was still fairly undeveloped at the time.

Thanks James, I see that now.

I see no name or hull markings on the tug except for the "K". I suspect it's freshly built. Here's a list of the ships they built:

In Arthur's link to boats built by Nichols, there were several boats built for Bernert Towing Company.
They have an interesting history.
