Who or what or why was Alan Winans, that he was taking these Wy'east photos and is there suppose to be an apostrophe in the name?

Alan Winans was a member of the class, either 1954 or 1955. I think they had a photography class and no doubt he was part of that.
His last name was Winans from up in the Dee area. A very old pioneer family.

Right behind Arlen's brother John is Jim Beam. Over by the window by the boy with the glasses is a guy by the name of Hakala. I want to say his first name was Bill, but not positive on that. The girl by the boy that is reading is Ruby DeBoard, now Utley. (In the longer sleeved white blouse.)
If someone had an annual would probably be easy to figure out most of them.

When the picture popped up , I thought there's Arlen. Finally a picture of HRHS students. But then I didn't recognize anyone else. Didn't know his brother, but there is a strong resemblence. But I did know Bill Hakala.

When I was in high school in the 60's girls could not wear pants and boys could not wear jeans nor T- shirts. Looks like the same rules applied here in the 1950's.

We could not wear pants but they came out with leotards, so we had every color of the rainbow. No problem, boys all wore jeans.
Beings we lived in the country in the winter on very cold snowy days, we could wear long pants under our skirts or dresses until we got to school, as some stood out in the winter weather a long time waiting for the school bus.
I don't recall if there was any rule about t-shirts, but they wouldn't have figured in except early fall and late spring as it would have been too chilly.

I wish we had some pictures of a similar vintage from Hood River High School.
