In the 50's the logs my dad logged were dumped at Rowena and rafted up there. They came off of Fir Mountain and from the headwaters of Mill Creek out of The Dalles. They were towed from there to the Stebco mill in Vancouver.

As kids we often played on log ponds, later realized if one fell between logs they would close back together and I would not be here today. Reminds me also of the Cooks WA mill where I, a non swimmer, was on the pond with a pike pole during the 1948 flood without life jacket or corks ~
