....and I bet that was good coffee, too.....Probably put on the stove and let boil for hours. My Aunt Emma (Jampsa) Mack put her coffee on in the morning. Cold water only and let it go. It got stronger as the day progressed. Only way to make coffee she said. As it went down she might add another cup of ONLY COLD water to it and some more coffee grounds.............And you NEVER really totally scoured out that coffee pot from day to day. Just swish a little water around to sort of rinse it out and go again.
Wonder what was in the box, maybe cookies to go with the coffee?????

We have one of those jugs. I think it is bigger than this one. The outer covering is some kind of reed that is woven around the jug.

I wonder if they wet the reed to cool the water, or if it is just to protect the ceramic from breakage?

This is high above the river so apparently on the original line over Crates Point. The highway was constructed on this grade after the present RR was constructed along the river.as seen in a recent post.

Arthur, compare this to photos I just mailed to you, seem to be taken from the same location, bluff, hills and even trees seem to match.

My grandfather had a wicker bottle like that in his basement. It had pure grain alcohol in it.

Kenn.....at our age we need a motor......at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center we have one that is push started, engine started with gasoline and then would be changed to kerosene because kerosene was cheaper back in the 1920s.....

Yeh Rawhyde, the one we have belonged to my husband's grandparents. He said it was out in the old cellar, and had wine in it.
