For a good road trip this summer, take a drive up the Cloud Cap Inn road, park in the Tilly Jane Campground (Forest Permit needed), walk over to the American Legion camp area. The stove is under a strutcher currently used for camping, but the stove can still be used. The USFS has a very descriptive sign near by. A good Sunday drive where you will see the destruction of the recent forest fire. Don't miss a short drive on to historic Cloud Cap Inn (no food).

Mountain Climb Set For Weekend
Some 70 mountain climbers were on Mount hood last Sunday, half of them engaged in lugging up 1200 feet of rope for lifeline necessary in the annual Mt. Hood Legion Climb this coming weekend. The other group numbering some 40 Crag Rats, brought up stakes and anchored down the safety rope which climbers will use next Sunday, July 18, during the arduous Legion Climb of Mt. Hood.
Meanwhile, a large party of Hood River Legionnaires was busy over the weekend at mile-high Legion camp preparing for the huge party which will take in this year's Climb event on July 17-18. Preparations are being made to accommodate a crowd of up to 5,000.
A full evening's entertainment is in store for those who attend Saturday night's "doings" on July 17. a two-hour show with professional entertainment has been arranged for the open-air bowl at Legion camp, located on Tilly Jane creek at the 6000-foot level.
Crag Rats will again guide this year's Climb group and Ed Puddy, big brother to Hal Puddy, who played football for Oregon State College during the past three years, will be chief guide.
The Climb will start from Legion Camp, 24 miles south of Hood River near the Mt. Hood Loop highway.
