We continue this week's road trip with a stop in Redmond. After a long drive through the desert the hustle and bustle of the city must have been a real contrast. In 1921 the city of Redmond was just 11 years old and had a population of about 600 people.

And now the population is 26,000.
For such a new town it already has an abundance of hotels.
I wonder if this is the first phase of Highway 97.

this was the heyday for speculators in the development of dams in central oregon for irrigation and electricity. there's some fascinating stories about when dammed and stored water found underground chasms that drained reservoirs leading to overnight boom to bust.
